Dr. Hummel completed his undergraduate degree at the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Biology.

He then completed medical school at the Texas School of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. After a year as Chief Intern at Plaza Medical Hospital in Fort Worth he moved to Boston and completed his anesthesia residency at Boston Medical Center.

He completed his formal training while doing an advanced Fellowship in Pain Medicine in Rochester, NY at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Hummel then joined the Caritas Medical Group in early 2009 and was instrumental in transforming the pain clinic at Norwood Hospital into a modern, multidisciplinary clinic. After helping lead the Norwood Pain Clinic for the next three and a half years he left Norwood Hospital to become Medical Director of Norwood Comprehensive Pain Management.

 

Alicia Bjornson is a graduate of Framingham State University with a B.S. in Clothing and Textile Design. While a student, she worked for Cherry & Webb, selling Este Lauder, Lancome, and Elizabeth Arden, where she developed an interest and love for creating and maintaining beautiful skin. After graduation, Alicia worked for a company that designed exclusively for Victoria’s Secret until she had children.

 

With the demands of work and travel with young children, she decided to go back to school. She has since worked for a plastic surgeon, and another large medical spa for over 17 years, and has been certified and trained on more than ten different lasers including Candela, Syneeron, Cutera, Palomar, Cynosure and Zerona.

Each procedure and product has been carefully selected based on tried and true experience. Her dream for Island Retreat is to bring her passion for fabulous skin to others and peace and tranquility to all who walk through the door.

Linnea Bjornson graduated with her bachelor’s of science in nursing from Clemson University in Clemson, SC. A native to Tiverton, Rhode Island, Linnea began work in the nursing float pool at Newport Hospital to gain a comprehensive view of medicine.

With a vocation to aesthetic nursing, Linnea became certified in cosmetic injectables, laser services, medical facials, and skin care lines, training and learning alongside many experienced professionals. 

Providing intrinsic advice to help people achieve their skin care goals, she loves to approach your objectives in a holistic manner. Linnea believes that skin care is an endless journey, not a destination!

Nancy Simao-Miranda, a nurse of 17 years, graduated from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Given the fact that Nancy has always been passionate about the beauty industry, she decided to explore her love for it and pursue her true calling by committing herself to becoming a licensed esthetician. Nancy attended esthetics school while working full time as a nurse, embarking on a new business journey with her husband and being a mother. Amid the chaos, Nancy graduated from The Elizabeth Grady School of Esthetics and Massage with the highest academic achievement.  

    

During her studies, she soon discovered that her niche and fascination aligned with the skin care aspect of the program. Her fascination lay specifically in the importance of inner health and wellbeing and its effects on skin health. Nancy prides herself on providing the most relaxing facials and assisting clients in establishing a skin care routine that is customized to each person.  When Nancy is not working, she enjoys spending her time with her family, working out and reading. Lastly, Nancy’s favorite inspirational quote is a “skin well cared for reflects the harmony within”. Nancy firmly believes that nourishing your body and taking care of yourself will help create balance between your inner and outer self. Nancy is looking forward to meeting, treating and providing each one of her clients with tranquility.
